The Inner West Pride Centre

The 2024 adaptive re-use of Newtown Town Hall into the Inner West Pride Centre, recently completed under a Heritage Exemption Certificate, included the replication of pressed metal and horse-hair ceilings.

Inner West Council selected Sydney Pressed Metal for their impressive collection of original Wunderlich dies to re-press metal ceilings and cornices to their original form. The building was constructed circa 1870 where the original ceilings were badly water damaged over time.

Sydney Pressed Metal stripped out the original ceilings, which were laden with undocumented sawdust, believed to be an earlier form of insulation.

Inner West Council was impressed with Sydney Pressed Metal’s flexibility to coordinate across multiple visits with other trades, ensuring all building services were installed in between strip-out and the final setting of ceilings.

“The final product is a faithful reproduction of the original ceilings for future generations. Council will have no hesitation in considering Sydney Pressed Metal for future similar projects.”

City Tattersalls Club

Sydney Pressed Metal was engaged by RJC Group for the heritage restoration works at the City Tattersalls Club, located at 194-204 Pitt Street, Sydney along with numerous other projects. From the tender stage, Justin Hubbard, Managing Director of Sydney Pressed Metal, demonstrated exceptional support and integrity. He was instrumental in coordinating logistics, providing accurate costings, and developing a clear and comprehensive scope and methodology.

The Sydney Pressed Metal team maintained prompt communication and
adhered to strict deadlines, giving us confidence that the project would be completed on time. Their extensive knowledge of heritage pressed metal greatly contributed to the successful salvage and restoration efforts undertaken by RJC. “As leaders in Stonemasonry and Heritage Restoration, we have no hesitation in recommending Justin and his team at Sydney Pressed Metal.”
